Roger Blackburn

Roger Blackburn is Vice President, Commercial & Loyalty, at the oneworld Alliance, leading commercial work spanning corporate revenue, events, alliance fare products and the development of oneworld's loyalty proposition. According to the alliance's published leadership biography, he has more than 35 years of aviation experience, including senior roles at British Airways in commercial performance, business planning and strategy. His career has taken him from the economics of an individual airline to the harder task of coordinating benefits across carriers that remain separate businesses. At oneworld, Blackburn has been involved in major customer-facing initiatives, including the development of the alliance's first two branded lounges. Yet the remit is broader than airport hospitality. It includes how an alliance earns a place in corporate travel, constructs common products and makes a consistent customer promise credible without central control of members' fares, route networks or frequent-flyer programmes. That tension—commercial independence on one hand, collective service obligations on the other—is central to his work. On The Indian AvGeek In Episode 82 of The Indian AvGeek, Blackburn distinguishes alliance membership from immunised joint ventures, explains the incentives behind cross-airline lounge access and considers India's substantial international oneworld presence without a domestic member. He discusses the Taj InnerCircle–NeuPass relationship, the revived Meetings & Events proposition, the difficulties of establishing new lounges, and why AI-enabled travel shopping may increasingly depend on servicing a customer's own digital assistant. His remarks about future facilities and products should not be treated as confirmed launches.
